Another good Asian adventure,
This review is from: The great dragon's fleas (Paperback)
This was an interesting and enjoyable read about the author's long travels throughout Asia from the northern Indian home of the displaced Tibetans and his meeting with the Dalai Lama to Bandgladesh with some good descriptions of the difficult life and religious repression in this area. The part about his visit with the gentle Chakma Buddhists of SE Bangladesh, their way of life, history and their brutal repression by the Bangladeshi majority Muslims was particularly touching and informative. He journeys to many different Asian destinations, mostly difficult to reach and not well known and writes thoroughly about the people, their histories, their current status and their spiritual/religious practices, some of which are very interesting, at times angering, and even funny at others.
I heartily recommend this book to anyone interested in travel/adventure and learning of different peoples, cultures and religious traditions and practices, particularly in Asia. I didn't want it to end.
