This review is from: The St Trinians Collection (4 Disc Box Set) [DVD] (DVD)
Being from a different generation, born 30 years after the first film was made, I'm in awe of these films (in particular the first 3) and they never fail to please. Don't be put off by people's remarks that these films are now dated. I often find the "dated" films are the most humorous. Flash Harry is one of my all time favourite characters, George cole plays a blinder as him and the music that accompanies the character tops it off perfectly. Alistair simm is at his best as the zany head mistress as well as her twin brother. Joyce grenfell is magnificent as the unfortunate police woman. The third film is equally as funny, minus Alistair simm, and deserves due credit. The random "de stress" ballet dance routine gets me giggling every time. The fourth film is considerably poor compared to the first 3. Some humorous moments, Frankie howerd's wittering never fails to make me smile, but Flash Harry saves this film, though he doesn't appear in it a great deal.
Whoever made todays remakes of these films should have thought again. Despite being modernised, they haven't got a leg to stand on up against these classics.
I regret that comedy doesn't have the same appeal today. Todays comedians are put to shame by the legends from back then, being my favourite era for comedy. There were many a great comedy in those days, and these first 3 films are well up there with the classics. Belly laughs at the ready. If you love classic comedy then you won't be disappointed!
