5.0 out of 5 stars Individuality is a wonderful thing, 19 Jun. 2013
This review is from: Orphan Black: Series One [DVD] (DVD)
I was able to watch this as it aired in the States and it is soon to be shown on BBC3- a great decision to buy up this series from its cousins, BBC America.

I will be honest and say that to love, or maybe even like, this show there are some things you have to overlook. The 'British' accents occasionally drift into Australian, and more regularly into Dick Van Dyke territory, but when you consider how much work this show must have been for its breakout star Tatiana Maslany- on screen for nearly every minute of each episode in one guise or another- a few slips can be forgiven, I think. Also, as a second season has already been commissioned, she has time to practice. This is a problem that will undoubtedly resonate more with UK audiences than it did in the US, so I expect to see less overwhelmingly positive reactions to Orphan Black over here.

If you can give it a chance and overlook that, and some dubious inferences related to genetics and the abilities of serving police detectives, you are rewarded with a slick, amazingly acted, sexy and suspenseful show that draws you in and keeps you guessing. As this is the first season there are, of course, more questions than answers at the end of it, but you are left both satisfied with what you have seen and looking forward to more.

Tatiana Maslany is already award winning in this (these?) roles (Critics' Choice Television Award), and I imagine there can only be more to come. Well worth a look for her work alone, but there is some great storytelling here as well.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I really wish all the success to this show and am looking forward to others in the UK being able to watch it.
Pleasantly surprised to find the pre-order on here. It's a no-brainer for me!

Well, so much for that then. We have to wait another year for this release now. Go figure.

Get the region 1 set instead. How completely bizarre that it's getting released a whole YEAR later - by which point season TWO will have been on! :/

Full on lame. Must be because it hasn't started airing in the UK yet, still it's gonna be done WAY before then.

I concur with the above! This show will be finished in six weeks time - final episode will air on BBC3 in November. Making UK fans wait until next summer, is really, REALLY stupid.

If you have a Region Free Blu-Ray player, or are Multi-Regional, being able to buy the complete Season One Blu-Ray (or DVD) set now, (without all of the horrible BBC3 DOG's and on-screen clutter they plaster the show with), is a major bonus!

And importing it will be cheaper than buying the UK set! (The US Blu-Ray set is about £18 plus another £3 in postage to the UK! The UK Blu-Ray set is £22 at the cheapest if you pre-order it now, that is. Nearer release-date, it will more likely be much closer to £29-99, making it another reason, to import the set if you can!) But how many people will know they can pre-order the show now, let alone know it's even being shown on BBC3 at all?!

No wonder UK companies are losing money, when they make dumb decisions like this!

Zombi2 is wrong. You MAY be liable for VAT and other charges if you import from outside of the E.U. and your parcel is over £15. However, a large number of parcels don't tend to get targetted, and you are realistically unlikely to incur any charges.

No, the words "quite possibly" didn't go over my head. It's amazing how you felt the need to warn people about this issue, yet you've only done so on threads in which I've posted. Of course, you'll say that this is mere coincidence. But we all know it isn't, and you really do need to stop trolling me across all of Amazon, posting comments only in threads I comment on, or only on reviews I post.
