This review is from: Yoshi's New Island (Nintendo 3DS) (Video Game)
The original SNES Yoshi's Island was an absolute work of genius, particularly considering the available technology a couple of decades ago. This game, unfortunately, does not do it justice. While it's not a bad game, and a lot better than the run of the mill platforners that are still being churned out, it just doesn't add anything to the original. It loses the awkward character switching of the DS follow up (which was even more disappointing than this version), but doesn't make much of an effort to add anything new. If you've never played the original Yoshi's Island,I'd recommend this, it's a good solid game, if a little uninspiring. But if you can get your hands on the original, forget this. Come on Nintendo, you can do better.

I don't know if you know but this game wasn't developed by Nintendo themselves. It was a studio called Arzest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arzest).

Says it all really. I so nearly brought this thinking it would be another Nintendo great, but just happened to have a quick look on Metacritic before I did, thankfully, its no longer on my to buy list and never will be!

I read it pales in comparison to the original on the SNES.. What a darn shame.
