Better than Blake?,
This review is from: Bitten: Number 1 in series (Otherworld) (Paperback)
I wasn't sure about this book at first, and had bought it for lack of anything else to read...I still wasn't sure when I started it and then - WHAM! - I was hooked. It's fast paced, and reads well with a few surprising developments thrown in.
If you're a fan of Laurell K Hamilton, then this might well appeal for it has a similar tone, but with a number of major differences.
In my view, the story was a lot tighter than the Anita Blake series and I also felt that the character of Elena was more convincing. The character was skillfully handled by Armstrong and intriguing in that you were able to see through her own pig-headedness and self-denial before she was.
Of course, there was sex and violence too, but this was again handled well, and convincingly. The story was gripping and un-put-downable and enjoyable on a number of levels.
I don't really see Armstrong making a series out of this, as I'm not sure there can be more mileage out of this story. Besides, the number of werewolves was pretty small! However, I wait with eager anticipation for whatever this author writes in future.
