5.0 out of 5 stars External DVD Drive, 19 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Panasonic Hebron UJ890 Portable Slim USB DVD Burner External Hard Drive DVD Writer RW DL RAM
Thought it strange that this item needs to take 2 USB Ports - one for power and one for data, however it looks and performs well. Does the job I got it for so I'm happy!

Mr. Il Coyne says:
you sure about the ports, they usually put a splitter on so you can put in into 2 older usb slots which then can deliver the voltage required that one alone may struggle to provide. unsure if using 2 usb slots together increase data transfer rate but usb3 devices should work with usb 2slots just not at maximum capability as usb 3 is x10 faster, but my reseach suggests for blu ray that usb2 is capable of handling the required data throughput for burning ok, but I imagine as disc speeds are increased for newer machines that it may limit the burn speed and not write as fast as latest device or discs are capable of. Usb2 can handle 12mbps and if u run a bd advisor checker it will let you know whether the computer is modern enough to handle the process.
ok your right just found a decent picture of one eventually, I was going to buy but think I should run that tool just in case, never thought a simple upgrade from a dvd writer would take me at least a whole morning to figure out.
thanks for mentioning that as no one else did
