One can sense that when this book was written, then translated by Oswald Moseley, it was about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit.
65 years on one can see that this man was brave, lucky and very skilful.
The lessons learned about flying slow for ground support and tank busting that this pilot and the Stuka plane so ably demonstrated have not been lost in both the US Warthog and the anti tank helicopter of modern day.
As to Rudel's love of Hitler and the German offensive in Europe and Russia, one can only suggest that such a highly decorated serviceman would have to be very sure of his leadership, even if that surety might, with hindsight, be misplaced.
I loved this book as it gave the other side of the coin of the aerial battle in WW2. It is always good to read of someone at the very top of his chosen profession.
