Formal experimentation pays off big time,
This review is from: A Sleepwalk on the Severn (Paperback)
This was my first experience of Alice Oswald's poetry, bought off the shelf on a whim, and I'm very glad that I was taken by that whim! The idea of a poetic play really interested me, and it works brilliantly. It adds an interesting edge to the variety of voices which one normally finds in a cycle of poems, along with the inclusion of very personal "stage directions". The poetry itself is beautiful, but the form is what really makes this work.
