Knuth is always helpful.,
This review is from: Mathematical Writing (Mathematical Association of America Notes) (Paperback)
This book is not exactly written by Knuth, but is lecture notes for a class he once taught. As usual Knuth picks his material well, and the material contains almost everything you wanted to know on the subject.
The problem is that it is notes from lectures. This means there is no proper index and that material is spread out in sometimes illogical ways. It is probably more useful to learn the subject than to keep as a reference as you write. In fact, the book itselfs gives many helpful pointers to such books.
For those of us with an interest in Computer Science there are quite a few interesting guest stars, including a very nice section by Ullman on how to get rich writing.
I would recommend this book to the ambitious student wanting to get a hold on the subject, or the Knuth worshipper wanting to own everything by him. There are better references though (and in all fairness, this book does not try to be one).
