Shreddy Freddy Repeat,
This review is from: Nightmare on Elm Street (Blu-ray + DVD Combi) [Region Free] (Blu-ray)
On the whole, this would probably be a good watch or an enjoyable movie for people in their teens - or anyone that had been incarcerated for the last twenty odd years in a padded cell with no access to either VHS, DVD , VCD or other media players ! BUT, for anyone slightly older, or has seen all the 'Elm ST' movies beforehand, then I personally think your going to be a bit disappointed at this new 're-imagining' of the first movie in the Freddy franchise.
Here lays the problem. If your going to make a remake movie - the original not really all that old itself - then you have to give the people who are going to watch it something 'new' for their hard earned cash, something that will make them feel that whilst its a remake, there will be something new, a twist, a special effect that will make it all so different from the original.Even a alternative end ?
And , that is exactly what this movie fails to do. It is at times a complete scene for scene RE-MAKE of the first movie - Running in glue, sparks from blades on pipes, mummy being dragged away at the end, friends your relying on falling asleep, girls in school hallways, cuts in class, hitting the ceiling, elastic walls, ......need I go on ?
There is nothing new in this movie, no moment of enlightenment.
HOWEVER, The guy playing Freddy does in my opinion a reasonable job - if you try to put the old one out of your head first, and the teens being ripped to shreds are not the worst actors in Hollywood. It's 90 minutes of entertainment that you could well be thinking you had seen before, even though you know its new !
