This review is from: SIDI Men's Dragon 2 C Srs Cycling Shoe (Apparel)
Sidi are famous for their high quality and comfort fit. These shoes are no longer top of the line and have now been superseded by the dragon 3's. I bought these for a shade over £200 which was an excellent price on Amazon, but that is still a lot of money to be spending on shoes. So are they worth it? Well that depends on what you want from your shoe. I love cycling and particularly road cycling, but I prefer to have SPD cleats that I can use for commuting, training and putting in some hard centuries. I also really like to be able to walk around, so road shoes are not for me. These shoes are really very stiff. There's maybe a tiny bit of give in the middle of the sole, but otherwise the stiffness of this shoe will be familiar to those familiar with high-end road shoes. This stiffness works well for the types of road cycling that I do with maybe the occasion stop and walk around. This allows really good power transfer and a nice positive contact that gives me confidence on climbs.
Another reason you might consider this shoe is the simple fact that it will probably last you a very long time as many of the parts are replaceable. It's a actually ridiculous. You can replace the tread, the soles, the ratchets, the buckles, the heel support. Unfortunately I have had to do this already. A few days ago, maybe I was being a little over zealous, but I managed to snap the ratchet on the left shoe. It still works ok, but a small piece flew off and it left me feeling a little peeved. I went to a site called sidicafe and got replacements for £12. Easy.
Comfort wise these shoes are great. I usually wear uk size 10 and so ordered those (actually size eu 44) and they are really snug. So much more than my older shimanos of the same size. I think my actual feet size is probably 9.5, as I usually have a plenty of room in 10s to wiggle my toes, but in these they are snug and just so. Not uncomfortable by any means, but you should bare that in mind if you order these online. The snugness also mean that if you have wide feet, these might be too narrow. I know that sidi to have a mega range for wide feet, but I have not seen mega in their dragon ranges. I quite enjoy that these shoes (I got the steel blues) are wonderful to look at. I have to admit, if I was a mountain biker and had to let these get dirty, I would perhaps picked a more conservative colour like black.
These shoes will benefit those that are really serious about cycling and spend a lot of time in the saddle and perhaps want a performance shoe they can see using for years to come. On that matter, only time will tell, but I'm optimistic (despite ratchet issue) and am happy with my purchase.
