Excellent companion to a trip to The Musee d'Orsay,
This review is from: Modernity and Modernism: French Painting in the Nineteenth Century (Open University: Modern Art - Practices & Debates) (Paperback)
This book is designed with the O.U 3rd level(equivalent of final year undergraduate)course A316. But if you have ever wanted to study art, but don't want to commit yourself THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU. It covers some interesting and important artists from the mid 19th C onwards, and is a good way of introducing some of the more theoretical writings about modern art. However it is woefully short of British art, as are the three companion books, and being a francophile will help you lots.

Miranda Mason says:
It's about French painting in the 19th century. There are other texts on British art available.
