This review is from: Easy Money (Stockholm Noir Trilogy 1) (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)It may be excusable for a book to be nonsensical garbage but there is no justification for narrative to be unremittingly repellent and repugnant. Similarly poor writing style and foul language may be overlooked if the plot is tolerable, but `Easy Money' has no coherent storyline and is just a series of disjointed horrific episodes of almost every type of crime and sleaze that can be imagined including bribery, blackmail, corruption, double dealing, extortion, fraud, money laundering, prostitution, drugs etc. etc. extending to extreme violence. All is delivered as irritatingly staccato gang slang which appears to have suffered during translation from Swedish.
Ignoring any pretence at fiction virtues `Easy Money' seems as though it deliberately sets out to simply shock. It is stupefying that something as outrageously dreadful can be a best seller with over a million sales and translation into 30 languages. It is depressing that as a highly successful criminal defence lawyer author Jens Lapidus should waste his talents writing such revolting rubbish. It is harrowing to realise his book is merely the first of a planned trilogy claimed as "dark and brutal". It is perverse to grasp how a film version of the book is the "highest grossing movie" ever in Sweden, and rights have been obtained for a version in English. `Easy Money' does not deserve even a single star rating - it should be dispatched to a black hole!

Adrian Maxwell says:
I could not agree more. More, I could not agree. I was so annoyed with myself for buying this bilge ie beleiveing the puff guff on the back cover. If James Ellroy really thinks this rivals Larsson and that this is 'thrilling', he must be barking mad .... or paid a lot of money. If I read another Scanda crime novel that, translated, uses words like 'majorly' and 'tops' I will pull my own teeth out with a magnet. 8 pages to describe a poker game in a casino that has nothing at all to do with the plot. Dont get me started ......Im so angry ..... wanted to write my own review but so angry just adopted yours. Im not going to Sweden, its overrun with Near, Middle and Far Eastern gangstas and Biker gangs with not a PCSO in sight..... be afraid, be very afraid...... of wasting your mazooma.
