Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Samsung NC10 10.2-inch Netbook (Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Windows XP Home, Blue) (Electronics)
Ordered it from amazon and paid for evening delivery.
Wonderful out of box, works well, relatively user friendly, and I like the samsung recovery III that creates mirror images of your hard drive so that data can be recovered in the event of a crash.
Screen was small (downgrading from a 17' sony VAIO) but was brighter than my former £1200 VAIO.
Webcam also works better than the sony inbuilt webcam, but alarm bells started ringing when I realised that this was the ONLY laptop that I have ever seen with a webcam but no warning light. Ie, you could be broadcasting webcam and not realise that you are on webcam as there is no warning light beside the camera like what most other laptops have.
Word processing is a slight pain as you can see very small area of the document. Fortunately, graphics card can support a large external screen. I managed to stick a sony 19 inch screen or a dell 19 inch screen onto it and its as good as any desktop, as long as I dont try to play some 3D game.
But overall, I am happy that I waited and got this instead of the eeepc 1000 which I had tried and found very disappointing.

Mr. M. J. Andrew says:
Hmm, none of the Apple Mac laptops have a warning light by the webcam nor did the old Sony VAIO I had with one. The Aspire One doesn't have a light either, not sure about other Netbooks but it's not something that would particularly bother me. I'm wondering whether to get one of these now or wait for somebody to release a netbook with 768 pixels of height on the screen.

A. Ikram says:
a netbook with XGA would not be a netbook - it would be a notebook/laptop and the screen would reflect a considerable price hike

Hi, I am looking at the NC10 for giving powerpoint presentations incorporating video clips via projector - I note the comments about external screen and some about processor struggling with video - do you have any advice whether the NC10 can cope with this or am I pushing its capability? Thanks

I bought one of these netbooks a few months ago and am using it to run a second screen at 1280 x 768 resolution with no problems. I also play large divx files on that second screen while still being able to send email or work on other documents on the netbook screen at the same time. Don't worry about some of the comments about speed - of course this isn't a top spec machine but I suspect the comments are coming from people who are used to high end machines. I don't think you'll have any problems running presentations with video.
