This review is from: J.R.Hartley Casts Again: More Memories of Angling Days (Hardcover)
Following the success of "Fly Fishing by J.R. Hartley", named after the fictitious book mentioned in the much-loved Yellow Pages advert of the 1980's, author Michael Russell returns to provide us a second J.R. Hartley book, aptly named "J.R. Hartley Casts Again".
Like its predecessor, the book is a collection of anecdotes relating either to the sport of fly-fishing or to the bizarre personalities found in the sport. Each story is beautifully told, written as if from Hartley's point of view, covering events that occurred from the late 1950's to the 1970's, just as the original "Fly Fishing" had featured anecdotes from the 1930's through to the 1950's.
The book is not as well-known as its predecessor, being an original work rather than one with a connection to the original Yellow Pages advert. However, that does not deter from the fact that, like the original "Fly Fishing by J.R. Hartley", this is a superb collection of curious and amusing little tales from the life of one of the world's best-loved fly-fishermen, and even if people do buy this book purely for the J.R. Hartley connection, I strongly urge them to read this book, for there are few other works quite so entertaining and enjoyable.
