I saw these plays in December 1965 when they were first broadcast as Wednesday Plays by the BBC. The Wednesday Plays were eye-openers, far more gritty and realistic than anything we had been used to with Armchair Theatre, etc. Other very memorable plays in the series were Cathy Come Home and Up The Junction. It has been great seeing the Nigel Barton plays again and even today, 45 years on, they still have something to say. Some of the dialogue takes place in noisy surroundings therefore I was very pleased to find that subtitles are provided. I also enjoyed hearing Eric Burdon sing We Gotta Get Out Of This Place as the credits rolled. These are two classic plays on one DVD at a very reasonable price and I would recommend them without hesitation. They will take you back to your younger days or, if you weren't there, they will give you some idea of what this country used to be like, not so very long ago.
