A good reference for anyone,

This review is from: Perl Core Language Little Black Book (Little Black Books (Coriolis)) (Paperback)
The style seems well suited for browsing, for learning from, and for answering the "how do I?" questions that may arise.
The examples are well constructed, and the section text only deals with the idea under discussion. Personally, I find this approach useful, sinde the examples are written such that I don't really care what the other lines are doing, just that they are needed to get the code running. If I need to find out what these lines do, I'd look for them elsewhere. It keeps the prose neat and uncluttered, and reduces repeated explanations.
As for learning, this approach of giving the solutions is good if you're learning on the job, since all you know is what you want to do. For a course, this book would not be laid out in a suitable way, and you'd find yourself flipping through the book a lot.
verall, then, a clear tool for programmers when faced with known problems, who want a fix in perl. For a self-tought or classroom situation, this book isn't so good, but once you are actually USING the language....
I wonder what the others in the series are like?
