I was given this to borrow when pregnant. In the last weeks of pregnancy I would listen to it every day, on the bus to work, in the evening or whenever I wanted to relax. I suffer from panic attacks and knew the only way I would deal with birth was by somehow learning to take control of my own mental state.
The actual labour was not how I had planned - I was induced and they wanted to speed things up so increased the hormone levels quite quickly, I also had to lie back on bed throughout rather than be free to move. I felt terrified. However, by being able to use the techniques of focussing and controlling my pain, I did not use any pain relief and the midwives said they were impressed with my calmness in dealing with a very intense labour.
