This review is from: Best Of Chic, The - Volume 2 (Audio CD)
You have to go to page 2 of Chic cds to even find this on Amazon, where it's going for under three quid and no one has even bothered to review it. No surprise I suppose, as all the music on this compilation stems from the period when Chic were a spent force commercially - there are no hits here. 'Disco' was sneered at even at it's peak (and most of the music was pretty soulless and banal), so when it fell out of fashion it really fell, and it took Chic with it. That's the trouble with fashion, and labels. Because Chic just carried on making great music, as this stupendous compilation of their 80s output (well, there are a couple of tracks from 79) proves. Nile Rodgers (guitar), Bernard Edwards (bass)- who also share production and writing credits - and Tony Thompson (drums) are musicians of stunning ability, exquisite taste and uncanny feel, and the music here, from irresistible groovers to sweeping ballads, is timeless and packs a real emotional punch. This is not nostalgia, this is class. Treat yourself.
