This review is from: Dredd [DVD] (DVD)
This film is an introduction to a day in the life of Dredd, it doesn't need to be complex, it just needs to show one Judge's belief in getting the job done...and that's what DREDD has done. The pre-release interviews state it's for the fans and the comics were always about Dredd dealing with situations, no character building only Justice.
For the reviewers stating this film has an anti-climax, you really didn't get it.....OK there was no "boss fight", but that was the point, to Dredd, Ma-Ma was just another Perp in an everyday event in Mega City One, she derserved no more screen time at the finale than Dredd gave her, his job is to enforce Judgement to Criminals, that's what he did, then went straight back out to tackle more scum in Mega City's crime ridden existence. He is old Stoney Face, and his committment to the Justice Dept. is his chartacter, this film has always been for the fans, I for one am glad of the low budget and lack of interference from the Hollywood Gloss and Dross.

I thoroughly agree with the above review. I am sick of big finales between the good guy and the bad guy. Dredd has always been about upholding the law and no criminal is better than any other.

I am fed up of reading reviews by "Experts" who dont bother to do any research or attempt to understand the universe/time/setting of the film and give it a bad review because they didnt "get it".

Totally agree...if you like and understand the character of Dredd from the comic, then you'll get this. It is just a day in the life of Dredd, and Urban nails it!

This Dredd sounds like what we 'starlord/2000ad' fans wanted,a finely worded reveiw (already got my copy reserved)p.s Clint Eastwood was in mind for Dredd in the first film

Never been a comic book reader but I have to say, this film as great from start to finish, apparently it didn't do too well at the box office so will probably end up being a cult classic

Excellent review. I really hope they make another as it would be great to see more of Mega City One. It's also one of a handful of movies where the 3D actually adds something to the experience. The Slo Mo drug with the 3D is very effective. Very underated movie.

Hopefully, all Dredd fans will buy a copy, and help get a sequel made...
I too am glad it captured the feel of the comic, Dredd's character being more 'Dirty Harry' than 'Rambo' - casting was good too, Anderson's role could easily have been given to another Hollywood 'bimbette'.

Interestingly this has more reviews than Skyfall yet less than half as many 1* reviews (in fact I think 5* reviews alone outnumbers ones for Bond 23) at time of writing anyway.
The next might be a straight to video or lower rated film but I guess there is scope if this is an indication of potential sales
