This is a smashing book. It is a really great read, beautifully written, not a word wasted, and in some places absolutely hilarious. The elements of farce are wonderfully integrated, the characterisation is cracking, and the observation is pin sharp. It is also a superb period piece about the days when Fleet Street was Fleet Street and electric typewriters were a novelty, and flat conversions did not have their own bathroom so everyone had to share the same one, and landladies had far too much power. I bet I will read it over and over. I envy you if you still have this jewel to discover!
