This review is from: Chopping Mall (Beyond Terror) [DVD] (DVD)
A shopping mall introduces a new crime deterent in the form of three 'state of the art' robots, only for them to go on a spazbot kill rampage after they get struck by lightening! God help the staff left in there partying after dark...
Awesome(ish) 80s b~movie nonsense, that's saved from the bargain bin by the skin of its teeth on account of its sheer shlock entertainment factor! The cast are a bunch of dweebazoids but have in their arsenal the likes of Crampton, Miller and Woronov! The robots have in their arsenal, cheap lazer effects and srmecs! That's right folks, its like Robot Wars vs 80s all american slasher victims! Boobs, bullets and Big Trax prevail! Horror hottie Crampton gets 'em out (amongst others! Yay), then they get chased by tinfoil shoebox Johnny 5's, that have the attitude of ED209 but the capability of Sir Killalot if he were to have a love child with Walter the Wobot! The teens (twenty somethings!) tool up at Pekinpah's armoury and fight back. . . ! Some terrible dialogue is delivered superbly in the spirit of its naffness and the music (equally poor) ranks slightly higher than its laughable effects. That said, at 75m i never got bored, and slaughtered as i was (on mead wine!), i thoroughly enjoyed this!
Anybody with an appreciation for any of the aforementioned are gonna enjoy this, but WARNING, stay well away if you don't like cheesetastic, 80s American b~horrors, as i suspect you'll find little of value..
The dvd on review was a gift from my good mate Alan (an 80's horror afficianado) and although i'd seen it years ago, the quality wasn't any better than i remembered on vhs.
The gore is minimal, with only an exploding head and a couple of zappings of any real merit, but undeniable fun nontheless.
Realistically it's a 3.5/5 movie (scored against its peers!) rounded up to 4.
They should install these robots in every supermarket across Britain, two weeks before and two weeks after christmas! It'd be like a Darwinian dream come true!
Have a nice day!
