Book Description

28 Jun 2010
The result of the second international photography competition organized by the distinguished Musée de lElysée, this book sets out to discover what young photographers are up to as the 21st century approaches its second decade. How do they see the world? How much do they respect, build on or reject tradition? Are they busy in the darkroom or the computer lab or both? Here, in more than 200 superb images brimming with inspiring creativity and ingenuity, are the answers to these questions. The variety of subjects and techniques confirms that photographers of extraordinary talent are well on their way to making their mark. Useful reference material includes biographical details of each of the eighty featured photographers and a note on the selected winning photographers from the first edition of the book, many of whom have gone on to forge international careers. This is an unmissable opportunity to preview the work of those up-and-coming photographers who may well emerge as the finest artists of their generation.

I really like books like this, full of colour and well laid out. I like the way it shows how photography can cover such a massive range of subjects and styles.

If all you have ever done is look at photo magazines in a well know high street news paper retailer, then buy this and book and see what you are missing.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Next Generation Of Photo Artists 30 July 2013
By Meg Maggio - Published on Amazon.com
There is no better over-view publication of young artists working with photography from all five continents than the "reGeneration" series of books, published every five years to commemorate the exhibit of the same name hosted by the Musée de l'Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland, one of Europe's leading museums devoted exclusively to photography. Authors and exhibit curators William A. Ewing and Nathalie Herschdorefer detail the work of over 100 young and emerging artists. The authors asked art schools around the world to submit their nominees for most promising talents. From this pool of nominees, the authors selected the 100+ artists named herein. This rigorous two-tier vetting process makes the book and the exhibit of the same name particularly compelling. Texts are detailed and thorough. The authors dare to bet on the next generation of artists working with photography, offering detailed arguments to defend their selections: Let's see where these artists are five years from now when the next reGeneration 3 hopefully takes place.
