5.0 out of 5 stars A useful and informative guide to pupils' misconceptions in Mathematics, 15 July 2014
Mathematics is often perceived as a boring subject where the answer is either right or wrong, but Children's Errors in Mathematics makes one realise the complexities and intricacies of the subject and the common errors that children make when studying it. This book links supremely to the Primary Mathematics curriculum and is an excellent aid to assist prospective Primary School Teachers in their training. It disseminates the Mathematics curriculum into distinct areas such as Number, Algebra and Geometry and provides explicit guidance on the commonality of mistakes that students make and elucidates how teachers can overcome them in a thoughtful, yet accessible style of writing. Parallel to this, it elaborates on the function of misconceptions in Mathematics and the pedagogy which surrounds them. Its lineated structure means that it is also applicable to Secondary School Mathematics Teachers as they can obtain an appreciation of where their students' misconceptions derive from. Overall, an excellent textbook.
