4.0 out of 5 stars It's Been A Long Time Comin' - Well Worth It.
This is an interesting release through 'Ace Records' by ABKCO that gathers together L.C. Cooke's SAR recordings from 1960 to 1965 (41.57mins long). For one reason or another the album never came out - mostly due to Sam's passing. The first 10 tracks are the proposed 1964 album, there's a couple of tracks (16 & 17) from an earlier period - 1959. The other 6 are mix of single versions, studio chat and unreleased versions. Overall, there are some great tracks on here - there are ballads, one or two up-tempo tracks but mid-tempo mostly, I especially like 'Teach Me'. There's great singing - he even sounds like Sam on a couple and there's some great song writing by both L.C and Sam Cooke. Sound quality is great overall. I congratulate all parties involved in this release, however there is one negative. As with a previous ABKCO release through 'Ace' 'Remember Me Baby - Cameo Parkway Vocal Groups' the 8 page booklet is poorly designed indeed. Normally, the 20 or so inside pages are in colour. Normally there is a wealth of info on the b/cover of any Ace/Kent release but no so here. Normally, the liner notes are packed with information, pics and label scans but this effort has been pooly done - as if an after thought. It's like a booklet from the early 90's. Bit of a let down to the overall package (2/10). However, it's the music that's truly important and that is pretty fine. 8.5/10 for the music. Recommended.
