5.0 out of 5 stars very funny
a really clever and amusing story which is my first experience of this author. the writing style and main protagonist have much in common with the "Josiah Samson" adventures by Tim Wellman which anyone who enjoyed this might like to try. i understand this is a prequel of sorts to a series by the same author, but must say id like to hear about Alexander and Flootes...

1.0 out of 5 stars ... die a quarter of the way through so someone better could take their place
Probably the only story I've ever read where I wanted the protagonist to die a quarter of the way through so someone better could take their place.

a really clever and amusing story which is my first experience of this author. the writing style and main protagonist have much in common with the "Josiah Samson" adventures by Tim Wellman which anyone who enjoyed this might like to try. i understand this is a prequel of sorts to a series by the same author, but must say id like to hear about Alexander and Flootes earlier escapades with werewolves and vampires which are teasingly mentioned here! this style of writing isnt to everyones taste (and i suspect many simply dont "get" it), but though im not a fan of all steampunk, i love the acerbic wit and outrageous style of this. great stuff

I do so hope Miss Carriger will entertain us with more adventures of Mr Tarabotti. It is educational as well as entertaining to read of the adventures of Lady Maccon's father. Hopefully she will include more of Floote's involvement as well.

I love Gail Carriger books! This one is almost like a prequel to the parasol protectorate series - it is well worth a read with a touch of humour and a steam-punk vibe. I recommend it!

A typical Gail Carriger offering, her usual and humorous light touch giving us some interesting back story for the Parasol Protectorate series.

A real damp squib -the title was intriguing and promised much, but sadly it didn't deliver and I was left thinking 'where is the rest of this.

Great little read, love the cold, clinical character of Alessandro Tarabotti. Hopefully there is more to come in the future.

Well it was free so I can't complain, but thought it was going to be longer . . . it's a short story.
