4.0 out of 5 stars a pleasant surprise and witty if you like the sense of humour
Reminiscent in tone of McNabs first book, ex-squaddies will chuckle along knowingly as this short read introduces a series of authentically voiced warts an' all military cartoon characters in an entertaining and realistic romp.

I usually find 'tough guy' stories irritating and unreadable but this hits just the right note, a pleasant surprise and witty if you...

2.0 out of 5 stars A Ryan clone that falls short.
Was a reasonable short read, but having read Urbans non fiction accounts and seen him on Newsnight, i couldn't help but feel he was deliberately trying to emulate Ryan, McNab & Black in style, rather than putting out something more befitting his education like Le Carre. Never found out enough about the kidnap guy to care about him, and a bit too derivative and cliched...

Never found out enough about the kidnap guy to care about him, and a bit too derivative and cliched about the Regiment to bring anything new to the genre. Mark has the skills to be a good fiction writer, he just needs to try and find some originality.

A book which is probably a reasonably accurate account of the situation in Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussain. Full of operations that don't go right, and this is probably more honest than what we usually read. Plenty of action, and would recommend it as a good, quick read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Story was good, characters started to develop and then it ended, 25 July 2014

At 60+ pages, it's not so much of a book, more of a leaflet.

Story was good, characters started to develop and then it ended. Quite disappointing really.

Bought when on offer and it did not impress - very lightweight, failed to engage and not enough pages. There are much better accounts / offers out there. Sorry :-(

short, but got involved fairly quickly. Room for improvement but he definitely has the making of a very good story teller. Good technical detail as well.

Found this very unsatisfactory - far too short and not very clear - sorry! Perhaps because it was a short story that I wasn't aware of it being?

I read this on a cold wet day in England, gripping for a short story. Well worth a read, and I never put it down, cover to cover, good ending.

Would have benefitted from additional operations and detail rather than what seemed like two kidnappings and the operations around them
