5.0 out of 5 stars Gossling is chill out!
Sublime, evocative and wistfully haunting are some of the ways to describe this album. The vocals are never cute or coy but have a self awareness that steers the songs forwards with ease. It is destined to be a chill out classic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Promising
Gossling is, in fact, Australian singer/songwriter Helen Croome and her
debut album 'Harvest Of Gold' is a soft poppy/rocky affair whose ten songs
point to an artist with the potential to find the spotlight alongside kindred
performers such as Regina Spektor and A Fine Frenzy (Alison Sudol).

This is not to say that she has not found a voice of her own but that in
some ways it seems not quite yet fully formed. The arrangements are a
tad awkward here and there but she has a good sense of how to craft a
decent tune and dress them up in some appealing vocal harmonies. There's
more than enough variation and energy going on to sustain our attention.

The best apples in the basket would have to include opening track 'Big
Love' whose introduction has something of the flavour of Tricky's early
stripped-down recordings with Martina Topley-Bird until a more upbeat
chorus bursts into being out of the shadows; 'Vanish', a slow moving
brass-clad bluesy invention and 'Pulse' a rather lovely moody melody.
Elsewhere, however, songs such as the mediocre title track 'Harvest Of
Gold' and 'That Feeling' are just a tad too twee to truly cut the mustard.

File under 'Promising'.
