5.0 out of 5 stars 'GREAT VALUE' COLLECTION FROM THE EARLY ROCK/POP SCENE'
There seems to be several albums currently available covering a similar period of sounds from
the late 50's and early 60's.....many of which are of course re-releases.
On this offering there does seem to be quite a few B-Sides, though as I've said before these were
often as good as, if not better than he A-Side releases.
There are many songs that many...

There are many songs that many of us remember well, on-board. maybe a few we are not so familiar
with. i'll just highlight a few tracks from each of the 2-Discs to give an indication of what's on offer
....on disc one........'Billy Fury' --'Halfway To Paradise' (The title Track)........'Bobby Vee' --'It's All In The
Game' ('Cliff' had a Hit in the U.K with that one)........'Sam Cooke' --'Bring it on Home To Me'........
'Johnny Burnette' --'Little Boy Sad'........'Adam Faith' --'Poor Me'........and........'Terry Dene' -- A White
Sports Coat' .......some of the 25 numbers that can be found on disc one........on disc two........'Elvis'
--'Don't Be Cruel'........'Emile Ford and the Checkmates' --'Counting Teardrops'........'Lonnie Donegan'
--'Love is Strange'........'Joe Brown' --'Picture Of You'........'Johnny Cash' --'I Walk The Line'........
'Matt Monro' --'Softly As I Leave You'........and........'Marty Wilde' --'Rubber Ball' (a number 9 hit for
Marty, 'Bobby Vee's' version also made the top ten in the U.K at the same time).....again just a sample
of what can be found on disc two...................I have again just pinpointed half a dozen or so from each
of the two discs o-board.
There is always just the one or two numbers that catch your eye on compilations such as this, many
of us in search maybe of that one track we've been unable to find, on this collection there are maybe
one or two numbers not often seen on this type of release, worth checking out perhaps....the 2-Disc
50-Track Compilation is currently being sold for just £3.00 on 'Amazon'
(This an album that is almost certainly a re-release)

5.0 out of 5 stars Ups and Downs of Teenage Romance, 19 Jan. 2015

The songs in this compilation is all about teenage romance with all its ups and downs - not quite in paradise but only halfway! Some of the songs are well known and some not so well known but still enjoyable and easily recognizable as from the era. In listening to these CDs, I realised how much influence these songs had on me as a teenager. One could easily identify with the sentiments expressed in the lyrics. Its lovely to hear them again. Thank you One Day Music and Amazon for making them still available.

Really great memories for us "over 60's" and excellent value for money. I bought the CD and got the download for free, so was able to give away the CD to an equally old mate! Some of the tracks by well known artists aren't, perhaps, songs that they were most well-known for but that doesn't detract from the excellence of the music. I loved it.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, HALFWAY TO PARADISE, DAY2CD248

One Day Music are back with another super 50 track compilation from many well known British and American performers and groups.

A scan of the recording dates tells me that CD1 covers the period 1957 to 1962 and CD2 covers 1956 to 1962.

Made up of a massive 50 tracks the theme is the love song and the mix takes the tempo from slow through mid tempo and rock n roll as we hit those hectic final years of the 1950s.

The popular singer Michael Holliday appears on CD1/17 My Heart is an Open Book...from November 1958.

Michael Holliday, born Norman Alexander Milne (1924 - 1963) was a British crooner popular in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He had a string of chart hits in the pre-Beatles era in the UK, including two number one singles, "The Story of My Life" and "Starry Eyed"

Solomon Burke...CD1/21Just Out of Reach
1961 "Just Out of Reach (Of My Two Open Arms)" /
"Be Bop Grandma" Atlantic 2114, number 24 on the pop chart and 7 on the R&B.

Solomon Burke (1940 – 2010) was a recording artist and vocalist, who shaped the sound of rhythm and blues as one of the founding fathers of soul music in the 1960s and a "key transitional figure in the development of soul music from rhythm and blues.

James Ray (1941 – 1964), born James Jay Raymond, was a R&B singer of the early 1960s best known for the hit single "If You Gotta Make a Fool of Somebody", which went to number 10 on Billboard's R&B chart and number 22 on the pop chart in 1962.

As I have said plenty of times the sound transfers are always of an excellent standard and these themed sets are a real pleasure to listen to. The packaging is attractive and includes some photographs of those featured...Billy Fury/The Shirelles/Elvis Presley/Patsy Cline/Dion/Johnny Cash/Del Shannon & Cliff Richard.

The liner notes on this occasion are by Brian Parks. The running times are as follows CD1 60.52 & CD2 63.33. As always the asking price is very very reasonable for such an interesting compilation.
