5.0 out of 5 stars Great addition, great band, 3 Sept. 2014

This review is from: Exile On Twee Street (Audio CD)
Despite a meagre output, the Bluebells' quality control was high and their sole LP, singles and b sides were all great. It's easy to forget just how popular they were, too, when I was at school in their home city. Yet they've maybe done themselves a bit of a disservice by being an unashamed 'pop' band, ambitious in a way yet refusing to take themselves too seriously. Not cool in the 'Postcard' context, given its growing posthumous significance, but some of these songs would have augmented that fine imprint. 'Everybody's Somebody's Fool' is just a gem, no question. This is a welcome clutch of demoes and rarities, probably more for the collector than as an introduction, and it's great to have songs like 'Honest John' on cd. Hopefully - surely - their long-deleted 'Sisters' album must follow! They may have been pop but anyone who saw them, even on The Tube (late in for gothy Dead or Alive and totally winning over their crowd), knows they could rawk out too. The disc itself is nicely packaged and presented but the title is truly awful, as is the cover montage.

Fabulous collection of great unheard tunes by Scotland's answer to the Beatles. Really glad I took a chance and bought this album, also has a really informative booklet inside on how it all came together,a real slice of music history.Buy this album,it is a little gem.

great compilation ,some sound quality isn't great but the source is probably cassette demos. Apart from the songs we know Oh dear and Eastgreen stand out ... red guitars better than the released version from Sisters.Overall well worth buying.

Perfect weather for lying back and chilling to this fin collection of original versions and demos. Makes you realise just what a great time this was for Scottish bands, Orange Juice, Aztec camera probably the most memorable but, for sweetly melodic slightly folksy, like a Scottish Lovin' Spoonful The Bluebells deserve to be more than a footnote, god HOLLAND is still a great song shame they didn't add YOung at Heart on as a wee bonus.
