This review is from: Aladdin Original Broadway Cast Recording (MP3 Download)
The transition from the classic Disney animated film Aladdin to the Broadway stage has been a great success, if the various nominations haven't persuaded you to have a look into it, then this cast recording surely will!

This is a stellar recording of all of the songs in the musical, which is a mixture of songs we know, to some new ones thrown in. The existing material used from the film has been handled with care, still retaining the original essence that we are all familiar with, but making it original for this 'new' version of the story. Including a small Disney Medley and tap routine thrown into the Genie's 'Friend Like Me', which really works to enhance the direction the character has gone in with this production.
Some of the new material is material that Howard Ashman wrote in the early production of the film, before his death, that has been reworked into the new production, which I feel fits perfectly into the new setting. Aladdin has the heartfelt 'Proud of your Boy', making reference to early script versions of the film, where he had his mother present. Aladdin has a group of fellow thieves he calls friends, who themselves get another previously penned songs, 'High Adventure', which is light-hearted feel that captures the essence of the band of friends.
The few original songs penned by Alan Menken and Chad Beguelin can take some getting used to, but add more depth to characters that felt undeveloped in the original movie, those of Jafar and Jasmine, who both get their own respective songs 'Diamond in the Rough' and 'These Palace Walls'.
The cast I feel do a stand out job, shout outs going to James Monroe Iglehart as the showman that is the Genie, and Jonathan Freeman who voiced Jafar in the original film, reprising the role for the stage production.

If your a fan of the Disney Musicals, then this is a new soundtrack to add to your collection. Or if your just a Disney fan, or a fan of musical theatre, I guarantee you will find something within this cast recording that will get you singing along too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Musical Transfer!, 3 Jun 2014

This has to be my favourite Disney to Broadway transfer! The music has been perfectly adapted for it, with the re-orchestrations and additional songs creating a brilliant selection of music and giving a jazzy sound. The cast are phenomenal, particularly James Monroe Inglehart playing the genie who gives an incredible performance as the frontman of the show. And of course there is a superb orchestra to top it all off.
Unfortunately I live in the UK so at the moment I don't stand a chance of seeing the show live, but I can only pray that it soon comes to the West End! It certainly deserves to.
