I enjoyed this very much. I had not previously realised that there were other books by E M Delefield available, and given the subtitle of this I wondered how much of a novel and how much of a treatise this would be. In the event it was the story that held me, but the messages in it have relevance today, especially towards the end, and I think there is a lot many of us in today's world of received wisdom, divorce and broken relationships could learn from the outcome displayed here. Worth a read if only for the story, but plenty more to consider if you wish!

I didn`t know this lady had written any more than "A provincial Lady" and was delighted to see other books, about11, she`d written on Amazon. I've read a number of E M Delafield novels recently, and this is one of my favourites. Similar theme to other Delafield works, but I particularly liked the way the relationship of the married couple developed, and found it moving. Couldn't put it down till I finished it, and at the same time was sorry to get to the end!
