5.0 out of 5 stars A Film that Brought Back Memories
A film that made one look back in time to ones own life at the same age as the central characters of Will and Mateo, who are busy organising Wills 30th Birthday party and the issues, secrets that both have and are exposed and how they handle them. The film was well scripted, acted by the diverse cast of gay / straight friends neighbours. The sleeve containing the disc...

2.0 out of 5 stars The central couple are obviously having unexpected difficulties at a time when they both expected to be having a happy occasion,
This film suffers from a lack of critical distance between the writing, direction and acting. It has the flavour of reality television as there are too many episodes of seemingly unedited rambling conversation between characters, some of whom appear to have very little in common with the protagonists. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Film that Brought Back Memories, 24 July 2014
This review is from: Turtle Hill, Brooklyn (DVD)
A film that made one look back in time to ones own life at the same age as the central characters of Will and Mateo, who are busy organising Wills 30th Birthday party and the issues, secrets that both have and are exposed and how they handle them. The film was well scripted, acted by the diverse cast of gay / straight friends neighbours. The sleeve containing the disc quoted a run time of 93 minutes but in reality it ran for 73 minutes. May not appeal to everyone but I enjoyed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good film, 24 Aug. 2014
This review is from: Turtle Hill, Brooklyn [DVD] (DVD)
I really enjoyed this beautifully written, acted and directed film that explores the lives and loves of a gay couple living in in contemporary New York during the course of a 30th birthday party and it has to be said that Brian Siebert looks fabulous in that pair of swimming trunks!

This film suffers from a lack of critical distance between the writing, direction and acting. It has the flavour of reality television as there are too many episodes of seemingly unedited rambling conversation between characters, some of whom appear to have very little in common with the protagonists. The central couple are obviously having unexpected difficulties at a time when they both expected to be having a happy occasion, but there are too many diversions and unfocussed scenes to really allow this to become a strong dramatic core. A few set pieces such as the pinata sequence add a bit of group energy but that also goes on rather long for what it achieves in terms of plot and character development. Overall rather disappointing.
