Excellent archival material. Casual atmosphere. Bonnie (G)raitt, nice discreet support from Lowell George and Freebo. Always wanted to like John Hammond's work but too unfocussed for my taste. Excellent record of the time and place.

Bonnie, Lowell and J Hammond, live - what could be better? Recorded for a radio station, in what sounds like a small studio with a small audience - would have loved to have been there, sounds like they had a ball. Intros and backchat between the performers is nice and relaxed, some downtime and tuning-up breaks just makes it live and real. And the performances are terrific... Recommended for anyone who appreciates the three great musicians named above (also BR's bass player Freebo), or their like from that era... Buy it.

Sadly, once Bonnie Raitt hands over the lead vocals after track 8 this live broadcast simply goes down-hill making this disc just one for Bonnie Raitt completist only really.

"The Lost Broadcast" also recorded in 1972 - The Lost Broadcast is another live broadcast album coming from the same era & is imho an album of much better quality.

This is not a bonnie artist album and Lowell George is almost just a stoned helper. This is really a John Hammond album. Bonnie is merely opening for Hammond and does 3/4 songs, George does an acoustic apolitical blues and the rest is Hammond. They join together for a final run through of willis' it's too late but it's mostly Hammond. Marketing men have won out here.
