3.0 out of 5 stars Keeping the Faith
Lets get the grumbles out the way, the vinyl had blemishes on it but hey it plays great and the inner sleeves were not poly lined (which kind of says unloved to me) but hey the music although not high octane as some compilations is pretty great if you like this sound, although with all various artist records your instinctively drawn to certain tracks over others. This review is from: Northern Soul - All Nighter (Audio CD)
For many folk of a certain age (ie me), Northern Soul bridged the gap between glam rock and punk and this album has a bumper bundle of classic tracks, not so much of the mid 70s era but of the 50s and 60s which were resurrected at that time. There's many a toe-tapping dance floor filler here and for the money you won't get much better value. Yes there are loads of other such compilations out there but this is up there with the best. Recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Keeping the Faith, 1 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The vinyl only has thirty six tracks as opposed to the compact disc sixty but I guess a quadruple album in this day and age is too much to expect but nevertheless a glorious thought. All in all I'm a very happy chappy

4.0 out of 5 stars Roots of Northern Soul, 26 Sep 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As other reviewers have mentioned, this covers the early end of Northern Soul so if you're expecting an endless series of Casino-style stompers you'll possibly be disappointed. However it does have some great tracks. A lot of the material on here e.g. Patience Valentine, Carl Lester, Mike Pedicin is also covered on the Kent New Breed R&B / Popcorn series but it was good to get them on record (and if you like this try the aforementioned Kent series). All round a decent selection of tracks, nicely packaged and pressed on quality vinyl.

Maybe one of the better collections which are currently being released, but nothing to really get excited about sadly. KTF

This review is from: Northern Soul - All Nighter (Audio CD)
The R&B on this collection is late 50s/ early 60s recordings; apart from the Eddie Holland, Mel Torme, and Benny Spellman recordings I would say that this was a ‘Mod Collection’; there have been a couple of recent issues like this, also titled as being ‘Northern Soul’: a questionable assertion!

3.0 out of 5 stars 60's r/b, 8 Oct 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Northern Soul - All Nighter (Audio CD)
Purchased this on the strength of some good reviews and knowing a few on this treble CD- I am afraid this went to the wife as I was not overly impressed as this was more 60's r/b and little boogaloo. If this is your thing then you will enjoy it.
