3.0 out of 5 stars Not For The Purists, 18 April 2014

Pure Deep House 2 has it's moments but I feel it's pure, deep and very best of aspect is pushing it this time. There's alot more remixed commercial(pop) music this time, coupled with alot of what I would regard as filler.

The issue seems to be the need to please everybody with this second compilation which only serves to dilute the very nature of what deep house is essentially about. The more pop based remixes are indicative of this but to the more mainstream listener this may make the cds more appealing.

As a compilation of house and garage as a general crowd pleaser it ticks all the boxes but for the deeper listener this may have lost it's pure, deep vibe somewhat more than it's previous release. Not that the first was as deep or pure as it should have been but it balanced well.

A good set of cds to encapsulate the spring/summer vibe, but the deep, pure, very best of title is more misleading than ever. There's deeper compilations out there for the deeper, purer minded listener of the genre.

3.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Title Again, But Decent Enough With Good Value, 11 Nov. 2014
Pure Deep House 2 - The Very Best Of Deep House & Garage, still doesn't do what it says on the tin with regards to very best, pure and deep, but offers up some decent variations of house instead.

It's always nice that the 3rd disc gives you some garage for extra variety. The price seems value enough with the amount of material on the discs, but the big title doesn't represent the music in the form you would expect. I'd recommend "Papa Deep" deep house on Papa Records for a truer form of the genre, although what's on offer here is still decent enough despite it's varying styles.

3.0 out of 5 stars A stunning collection of vocal dance tracks!!, 20 Jun. 2014

A highly anticipated follow up release, Pure Deep House 2 attempts to capture and portray the vast array of talent emerging on the UK dance scene and also to highlight the challenges and difficulties that face many of todays DJ's. CD 1 starts the show with the well established commercial sounds that many listeners would expect from such a compilation. Deep, soulful seductive layers quietly lick one of the highlight tracks, Dansson & Marlon Hoffstadt - Shake That and the anticipation builds as the set slowly moves towards the centre stage vocals of Rudimental - Powerless (Feat. Becky Hill). Then the atmosphere quickly turns into an asteroid field of conflicting tracks and styles which continuously bump and collide off each other for the remainder of the set as the full force of an seemingly endless supply of youthful production talent is let loose on the decks. CD2 starts the same way as the first and tracks like Lee Foss & Mk - Electricity (Feat Anabel) quickly set the mood. The mix introduces a slight Electronic feel and established EDM beats are used randomly to highlight the repetitive rhythms of deep House tracks such as Route 94 - Walls come Tumbling Down and Jamie Jones - Planets, Spaceships (Feat. Anabel). Some thumping UK Garage bass drives provide the backbone and of the three sets, Disk 2 is definitely the most coherent in terms of production, style & genre. CD3 starts with some refreshing remixes of distant classics but quickly the style reverts back to its bombarding nature and the set seals its demise with a trashing remix of Infinity Ink - Infinity (Skream's 99 Mix). All in all the interest is kept throughout the compilation with an absolutely smashing collection of vocal tracks and whilst all three sets lack any sense of direction, many fans of backroom club resident DJ's will love its energetic experimental style. Veteran fans of deep house will foresee the misunderstanding displayed and as this release does have its predecessor to stand up to, it would be fair to say that it is nowhere near as good, but then again Pure Deep House 1 is a true masters release.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not as good as PDH1, 16 Jun. 2014

This review is from: Pure Deep House 2 - The Very Best of Deep House & Garage (MP3 Download)
Ok but not as edgy as the 1st in the series. Always looking for something new or classic, so was a bit disappointed with seeing mixes of tracks that were featured on the 1st album although finding Black Magic's classic 13 minute mix of Freedom ( make it funky) was a joy
