Although I have spent all my life living in and around London, I was born outside and for a long time felt the country life would be so much better. Some time ago I finally left this view behind and often found myself arguing for the urban against the rural. Gradually I have formulated views on why this is so and why more dense can be better than less (visiting Tokyo probably helped that one) and am now convinced that I could not live without the hustle and bustle, not to mention the Arts etc. Now here comes a book that intelligently analyses the whole thing and celebrates the big old city. There are one or two points I had some difficulty with (slums, for instance) but overall, especially when dealing with traffic and also South American cities, a very interesting and stimulating work. So well written, I finished it in two days.

5.0 out of 5 stars A read for those of us who want to see real regeneration, 20 Sep 2014
Cities really are the future, prosperous city regions and this book helps the reader see why, and what needs to be done in our less successful cities to make them thrive once more
