Dub albums can often be second-rate affairs with dull selections. Not this one. Culling material from 7" and 12" Island Records releases with a few album cuts (including seven tracks from the 1981 Raiders of the Lost Dub LP). The cuts are pretty well universally excellent with a ton of things I've not heard before. Lots of things going on in the mix with a 3D quality to the sound that appears to jump out at you. Great to hear the Paragons dub of Man Next Door (Indiana Jones), unreleased Ini Kamoze (World A Music Dub), Burning Spear's Black Wa-Da-Da and Third World's Satta Massa Gana Dub to name but four. Someone worked hard to source these versions. Good stuff.

What really makes this release a must have is the fact the original tapes have been used. The tracks on the whole, sound so clear with great depth. As close to listening to the vinyl editions that I have ever heard. Great to hear 8 of the tracks from Raiders of the Lost Dub in such clarity albeit in a different order. The only other way to hear those on CD before was to buy 'Timewarp' and the sound on that was far from perfect. I had to buy that edition from someone in OZ. Yet another winner from Boss Shots, the label formely know as Trojan.

The delight in late seventies reggae releases was the twelve inch B side. Stripped down, moody and mean dub that frequently was a step above the A side release. Tracks turn up on samplers but often hidden in bales of dross. But this is two CDs of Island Records sheer dub bliss. 38 tracks and not one dud. Enough to say, enough nuggets to put KFC out of business. It has favourites such as kicking off with Burning Spear's "Black Wa-Da-Da", some redubbed Black Uhuru, "Corn Fish Dub" by the Upsetters and two down to the wire ugliness but powerful Steel Pulse tracks. Highly recommended, one of the best value samplers of this genre I have encountered, mighty music and I give thanks to the range of artists and for its release.

Not as hard and heavy as hoped but still an excellent collection.

Some really great tracks on this CD-forgot how good Steel Pulse's KKK dub was!
