I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING THIS BOARD unless you have reasonable skills in updating BIOSes etc. It will ONLY work with Windows 8.1 until updated.

This is v1.0 of the board which comes with the incredibly buggy F1 version of the BIOS which ONLY boots UEFI installers, which means using Windows 8.1 to upgrade the bios to the much better F3 version, available for download on Gigabyte's site. [...]

The @BIOS app listed in the support section for this specific Gigabyte board won't install; use the generic BIOS flasher from here: [...]

If you don't have a Windows 8.1 key, it can be installed with a generic temporary key which lasts a few days - google for "windows 8.1 generic key".

the J1800 board is very similar and you should be able to find a useful discussion of how to flash its bios etc

I can absolutely recommend this board if you are looking for an energy saving, purpose build device for an unbeatable price. I use it as home cloud server and run a web gateway/filter (virtual) on it as well.
It needs to be clear that this board in not designed for high performance gaming experience or anything like that. It is well capable to do all jobs required from a computer.
Tested OS: Win 8/8.1 and Linux Debian. Hypervisors MS Hyper-V and KVM are running without any problems. 8 GB RAM (2x4GB) is fully supported.

Bought this to install linux + zoneminder to run a 6 camera CCTV system with motion detection. Cameras are captured via a PCI 8 channel card. It works wonderfully and has enough grunt to handle the requirements, and still have enough left over to run munin monitoring and XFCE4 desktop environment.

What really impresses me is the power use. This combo runs at one sixth of the energy use as my old system to run the cameras. The electric bill is going to really thank me. If you are already running a system 24x7 for CCTV/Media etc and looking for something to replace it - seriously consider this (or one of its cousins) and it will pay for itself in electric savings within a few months.

All in all, a great purchase and does exactly what is needed.

Mine arrived with the F3 BIOS, and could be booted from a USB stick easily.

Unfortunately, the BIOS option to turn the board back on when power is restored following a failure does not seem to work.

Very pleased with the Motherboard. Being used as a Home Media Center - performs really well and is very energy efficient. (It's the 2nd unit I have purchased)

Very good for the price, allows for a PCI card ( or exhaust fan if needed ) fitted sideways too with an extender ribbon ( not to be confused with PCIE )

Shame on Gigabyte for releasing a product that was no where near finished or complete. The price and design of this board clearly lends it to being used as a Linux home server / router yet it dosent boot the Linux kernel? What a joke. Save your self a load of hassle and buy an AMD AM1 board and APU and as a bonus you can use normal DDR memory and not rubbish SODIMs that this board uses.
