Garrett's virtuosic rearrangements of classical tunes and cantabile compositions are ravishing and exciting.
1. Caprice No.24
A catchy theme and fanciful variations each for a new dazzling technical display in a new direction (rollicking playfulness, stormy passions, desolate yearning) to bring out an astonishing range of violin sounds and emotional colouring (bright chirpy high octave, dark mournful longing and pain).
2. Ma Dove Sei (English/Italian version)
A heart-melting aria full of romantic warmth and Italian sensibility, heightened by tenor Bocelli's velvety phrasing, as passion soars with the ardent yearning violin.
3. La Campanella
A brilliant, ringing bell-song with embellished colouraturas, pearl-like notes played staccato and ravishing chords. The expressive violin is seductively sweet.
4. Io Ti Penso Amore (in English/Italian/3rd language unknown)
A sweet, soaring duet of desire and passion. The gorgeous soprano spans a great range, spurring heart-piercing yearning from the sweeping, intensely emotional violin. Surprisingly the beautiful ending has a distinct Chinese accent.
5. Sonata No. 12 in E minor, Opus 3
The evocative violin sings a sweet Italian melody with lovelorn lilt and warm resonance.
6. Devil's Trill Sonata
Elegant and playful, reminiscing the pop-baroque soundtrack of a lavish period teen drama: singing legato line alternates with innocent anarchistic up-tempo Hyper Romantic classic pop. The extensive multiphonic cadenza with feverish trills is breathtaking; the richly nuanced full-sound violin sings with warmth and passion.
7. Capriccio Tarantella
A lovely pitched virtuosic power play for two violins at dazzling speed.
8. Swan Lake Theme
Wild and unrestrained, the violin explores the themes of romance, betrayal and redemption with extreme passion and rock'n'roll resonance.
9. Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 2
A powerfully evocative score. The dark, impassioned violin sings with warmth and romantic yearning, and the rippling emotional undercurrents continue (on the piano) long after the violin has gone.
10. Caprice No. 5
The compelling violin attacks flying arpeggios, dashing scales, multiple-rebound ricochet with powerful Wagnerian passion and intensity.
11. A La Turca
The violin leads a sweet, whimsical march; the magical Oriental atmosphere created by the orchestra is lovely.
12. Scarlatti Sonata in F minor, k466
A beautifully poignant Italianate violin melody of the tenderest feelings and deepest longings, subtly echoed by classical guitar notes.
13. Gypsy Dance
Soon the wistful violin loses all inhibitions and dances into a whirlwind Gypsy romance as tomorrow is not guaranteed.
14. Carnival Of Venice
An amazing display of violin virtuosity with flirty brilliance and rhythmic playfulness.
1. Beautiful album cover; fabulous booklet with fine-art photos.
2. Reorganised (from album "Garrett vs. Paganini") track listings create a beautiful narrative to enhance the musical experience.
