The concept of this book is brilliant: to be successful, you need to master something: your profession, art, skills.
First you need to discover your calling, then find a mentor, start your apprenticeship and complete it.
The theory is correct, but between talk and action there is an ocean, and mr. Greene is not telling how to cross it.
Like many manual on success, this is short of specific.
I liked the examples of Proust, Leonardo da Vinci and others, but I struggled to read it till the end.

This is a great book, it teaches a lot of unspoken truths - the kind that aren't taught in colleges or university lectures but they're always committed to mind by the smartest people in the room. Learn when to speak and when to keep your thoughts to yourself, prepare your strategic moves with precision, use your enemies, beware of complacency and false flattery from resentful friends.l, destroy your enemy utterly. This book changed my life when I first read it over ten years ago. A lot of people talk about how this book teaches you to be bitter and manipulative, but I found it to be useful when applied in a work and professional scenario. It also works if you're single and dating but want to avoid the pitfalls of gold-diggers and women/men who use your goodwill & vulnerability to leach off you financially. This book will make you more self aware, more positive and more sophisticated than other people and you will begin to see how body language and signals are used efficiently. If you lack in confidence or are hesitant to commit to a course of action spend two or three days reading this book and I promise you the world will begin to make more sense and doors will open for you!

Interesting amalgam of ideas put together through well-structured arguments. My only quibble is the frequent conflation of mastery as a laudable personal objective, illustrated by well summarised historical examples, and a consideration of the most effective (Machiavellian) stratagems to succeed in a corporate context; most probably as a consequence of the author's previous preoccupations in 'The 48 Laws of Power'; that is by mistakenly making 'Mastery' synonymous with 'Power'.

Thai book goes over the steps that famous past figures have taken to achieve mastery of their field. This book is insightful and some steps are not intuitive. This is an important book for anyone pursuing a field to identify their stage of progress and the action plan to go forward.
