3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as previous volumes.
Previous volume 1 and 2 are richer compilations to my hear. Track selection isn't as good as in other volumes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than ASOT 2014?, 28 April 2014

Sorry Armin fans, but I regard this double set slightly better than ASOT 2014.I received both at the same time and this one has had more airplay. The other review does mention the use of the awful pitchbends that seem to be destroying trance compilations at present, but there are far fewer of them on this compilation that are led to believe.Yes, there are a couple of tracks that are too set on creating the 'big drop',and are very irritating, but get past those and there are some lovely trance tunes to be heard here.CD1 begins with some top dreamy trance for tracks 1 to 5,after which it is decent trance comp stuff(special mention-The Madison track).
CD2 is better, although track 4 is awful and upsets the listening experience.Get through that (or fast forward) and tracks 11 to 14 are super.Try it out Trance fans, and decide for yourselves.

ONE-WEEK UPDATE - I'm warming up to a 4.5 stars rating, on closer listening i.e. NOT in my car. Trance for grown-ups, with top production values.

ORIGINAL QUICK REVIEW
I pre-ordered this as I liked the previous two volumes (and Trance Nation) so much..

I'll change my review if I start to like it more, which I may well do, but for now, after 3 listens:

AM is well-known for top mixing, slightly unusual song/tune choices, LadyVocals and MASSIVE basslines.

Here, he's cut back on the girlie vocals, unfortunately for me, but no-one else seemed to like them that much. I personally liked the 'vocal manipulation' he has a talent for. And plenty of it. There's less of this this time round. There are also fewer proper 'tunes' - all the production and instrumentation is there, but few decent tunes to hang them on.

So: a slight letdown (unless I change my opinion in a few plays' time).

One VERY annoying thing: in his attempt to be 'exciting / banging', he uses that thing where a singlenote gets louder and louder and louder, held for longer and longer and longer; it goes higher and higher up the music scale over about 32 bars/beats; then there is a sudden bass-dive BOOM, then the tune takes off again. I've not counted them (yet), but it's SO annoying when it happens every 2 or 3 minutes for 2+ hours. it destroys the flow and makes your brain turn to jelly.

So, a few roughs and a few smooths. If you like him anyway, you won't be disappointed, and there ARE some crackers, but you might not like it as much as you were expecting. Try before you buy? There is probably a 15-minute mini-mix online somewhere.
