4.0 out of 5 stars Chicago Blues - Raw, 6 April 2014

Another bargain compilation, this one from the short-lived Chief Records, containing about half of their total output from 1957-1964. These out of copyright CDs are forced to stop at 1961, but there's plenty of Elmore James, including I think the original recording of his scorching "It hurts me too". Early Junior Wells is good too, and my favourite "Did You Ever Love Somebody" by soulful G. Davy Crockett. The transfers are decent quality, too so at the price, a snip.

Great tracks from a very under rated label that only lasted five years. Shame that One Day could not have found some of the other artists that recorded for Chief to add to this cd.
