1.0 out of 5 stars The angel of auschwitz
Rubbish rubbish rubbish far too short. Not enough intrigue. Far too quick to come to the conclusion. Some of the dialogue is too modern to give this woeful tale credence.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly researched with US slang, 31 May 2013

I got 3/4 of the way through and found the book filled with typos and mistakes, corporals became colonels, US slang like 'chow' was used by the Hitler Youth, much gratuitous violence, the SS wore black uniforms after 1939. The story was too far fetched and In the end I gave up.

Don't read this if you are squeamish at t the descriptions of the treatment of men and women in these camps. However the description is integral to what happens as the book develops. The very end confused me a little but I intend to re-read the last chapter or two. I would commend it to anyone interested in WWII history.

Although a work of fiction it clearly showed the way many nazis were so easily indoctrinated. One almost began to feel some understanding if not forgiveness for their actions. Very disturbing read.

This book is an enigma. The first half or more chronicles, without unnecessary hyperbole, the bestiality inflicted by the Germans (they were not all Nazis) on the "undesirables", in a way that does not dwell on gratuitous violence but tells the awful truth of German atrocities in WW2.

The latter part lost it a final star & I will let new readers decide if they agree with me. Irrespective of my final reservation, it is brilliantly researched and intriguing book.

A good read, I enjoyed although parts were pretty horrific but you would know that the subject was not good from the title. However, those times should never be forgotten so good to see books like this on the market.

What can one say its a story of a most terrible time in a terrible place. If like most of the books tells the stories of suffering at the hands of the Germans (call them SS or whatever they were Germans) Then they are worth reading. A good book
