5.0 out of 5 stars A great duo., 27 April 2014

This review is from: Saving Mr Banks & Mary Poppins [Blu-ray] [Region Free] (Blu-ray)
This is the story of how Mary Poppins got made & it's amazing it ever did. It's really 2 stories. One watching the process of how P L Travers the author made it almost impossible & two her life growing up with an inspiring & alcoholic Father. You see that this was more than an enjoyable fairy story. Colin Farrell gives a great performance but Emma Thompson as Travers steels all the scenes she's in unless Tom Hanks is there as Disney & they share the limelight. A masterclass in making a movie that leaves you smiling with tears in your eyes. To top that it makes watching Mary Poppins an even bigger joy, but Travers was right. Dump the animation. A great duo.

Delivery was fast and they arrive in good order. Saving Mr Banks was a good film and the insight into the making of the film from the book and how hard Disney had to work to win over the slighly disfunction writer of the original story. Great casting with these two staring together.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXTREMELY ENJOYABLE, 4 May 2014

Having watched Mary Poppins several times over the years on TV and dvd, I can now enjoy this movie with a new fresh perspective.
Saving Mr Banks is a frustrating journey of clash of wills and character, but at the same time is a story of mutual respect and even
some grudging affection that the 2 lead characters have for one another. I loved the flashback sequences to Travers childhood and the relationship with her parents, her father in particular. Tom Hanks portrayal of Walt Disney is flawless in every way. Emma Thomson is utterly outstanding as Miss Travers. I loved also the portrayal of the musical genius that is the Sherman Brothers, who's
body of work for the Disney organisation remains unsurpassed to this day. Having purchased the dual pack containing both Mary Poppins and Saving Mr Banks, I can truly say...the best blu ray purchase I have made so far this year.
