4.0 out of 5 stars I like it, even if the critics don't!, 28 Mar 2014
This review is from: Back From Beyond (Audio CD)
This new album has been sharply divided in the musical press and I can sort of understand why. The title of this LP, has of course marketed itself as a direct successor to their debut album and is intended to be as such. The rubbish that they put out after "From Beyond" now seemingly consigned to the dustbin of history, but "Back from beyond" even though it is a great album doesn't quite match the level of intensity and colour the debut had. That said this is no disappointment and it should also be quoted:- that there is a raft of good old' school vibes about this record and that is something that should be celebrated:- as for quite "an age" now a majority of fans have mounted they're united and consistent disapproval with modern death and thrash metal in recent times.

So Massacre, having been inactive for a number of years now,- joins the many other reunited bands to comeback with a sterling effort, and within context it is. The musicianship is top notch, sound prevalent, and a darkness only eclipsed by the Death's, Celtic Frost's and Mayhem's from days gone by; even the production is mint. Still, I would expect the critics and the always insatiable metal fans to use this opportunity to give it a hammering, which they have pursued in some cases and perhaps rather unfairly undercut what is ultimately a great result. If the songwriting and experimental edge was pursued a little bit further, as opposed to playing it safe I would have scored this a 5 out of 5.

So as it is I'm sticking with a 4 and am recommending this as another great comeback album from a band that quit much to early from way back.

This is old-school Florida Death Metal at its best!
Even though it's not the original lineup, I think it's the ideal one. New members Ed Webb and Mike Mazzonetto are true beasts!
Highlights: "Back From Beyond" (check out its music video), "False Revelation", "Sands Of Time" and "Succumb To Rapture".
