As a founder member of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers who performed and collaborated with departed legends Gram Parsons and Gene Clark, Chris Hillman has one of the finest pedigrees in the country rock canon.

He formed The Desert Rose Band in 1984, an outfit that he described as a "highly evolved" Burrito Brothers". Together with Herb Pedersen (guitar, banjo), John Jorgensen (12 string, mandolin, pedal steel). Jay Dee Maness (pedal steel) and Steve Duncan (drums), Hillman took lead vocals and played mandolin and guitar on three highly acclaimed albums for Curb Records between 1985 and 1989. This "Best Of" collection draws on these albums with ten tracks that are representative of the Desert Rose Band's finest work.

Their eponymous debut album yielded two top ten country hits - the steel guitar infused "Love Reunited" and the driving, rhythmic "One Step Forward". But the star of this particular show was the elegant and yearning #1 hit, "He's Back And I'm Blue".

Arguably their finest moment on record came with their second album "Running". This is the sound of a band at the peak of their artistic game with Hillman's voice, the Pedersen harmonies and Jorgensen's ringing guitars asserting Hillman's claim to be a highly evolved Burrito Brothers.

This album produced a #1, the gorgeous "I Still Believe In You", with 12 string guitar, a #2, "Summer Wind" offering the definitive sound of country rock and the dreamy #3, "I Still Believe In You".

"Pages Of Life" was the band's biggest commercial success and the last with the original line up. It produced three top 20 country hits: the bluegrass influenced "Story Of Love", the boogie guitar of "In Another Lifetime" and the ringing steel and sweet harmonies of the beautiful "Start All Over Again".

There was a time and a place where the consummate talents of these five musicians were brought together to make some of the most distinctive country rock of the decade. After a quarter of a century these tracks, culled from three definitive albums, sound as fresh and vibrant as ever.
