Fantasy should allow the reader into the world of an authors imagination.

The author has developed a world that offers both a sensory and intellectual adventure. The depth of the characters, the breath of vocabulary and layers of hidden satire offer up a read that ensures this will have a cult following.

It is clear that many will compare this to The Lord of the Rings. While they have much commonality, there is more depth to the writing of C. MC Donald. So many modern fantasy writers pay homage to what has gone before, simply using other's templates, copycat renditions where only their story and plot are different.

This is a fresh, unique and singularily thrilling work that left me breathless at the sheer creative brilliance of its author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly stunning, epic fantasy story that I enjoyed immensely., 27 Jan. 2014

And it is one that I'll remember for a long time. In just a few pages, like eyes adjusting to a different light . . . you'll forget that this is a fantasy tale. You could be watching a great film, as the author zooms in and out with the 'camera' with great skill and dexterity.
So many things strike a chord with real, everyday life in this cleverly woven tapestry . . . Look close enough and you might just see something you recognise, the more travelled among us might see more. . . man, myth, magic.
A classic in the making, this is no Lord of The Rings - it is better. Move over, Tolkein - there's a new master in town.

I loved this book! Great world building through which the characters move and interact with one another in realistic ways. As if that wasn't enough, I loved not just the story being told, but the way it was written, as it incorporated many myths.

C McDonald knows her craft. She is a skilful writer. She paints a world of fantasy, in words comparable to a classic. It is a world of fantasy, yet it is not a fairy tale. With her skilful language, while Atrament Speaks through the Speak-Cube, a world we are unfamiliar with, unfolds, gracefully. Her language is impressive, in fact, the book has a vocabulary of its own, it is creative, imaginative, and full of wisdom.

I thoroughly recommend this book as a wonderful experience in the land of Noor, meaning light...

5.0 out of 5 stars Atrament Speaks and you really should listen..., 30 Sept. 2014
This book is anything but Noor-mal fantasy. Over flowing with beautiful cinematic imagery, it's a breath of fresh air for the stagnant fantasy market. If you're sick of Tolkienesque ripoffs that seem to be churned out of the factories of Mordor, then your'll love this book.

The author is so eloquent, beautiful language. Not my normal choice of read, but a fantastic surprise. The characters are well written and the plot superbly executed. If you want to push your reading boundaries, choose this - you won't be disappointed.
