5.0 out of 5 stars to his rehiring as one of WWE's best managers in history, 24 Aug. 2014
I will try to keep this review as short as possible.

Aside from the CM Punk documentary, this is probably the most vivid, honest and engaging documentary that WWE has ever produced.

Paul is not afraid to speak his mind and it shows on this DVD. He gives brutally honest opinions on his ownership of ECW, his relationship with WWE and his time in WWE, from head writer of Smackdown, to proprietor of WWE's version of ECW, to his firing, to his rehiring as one of WWE's best managers in history.

Like the captain that sank with the titanic, he sank with ECW alone and went bankrupt. Not only this, but he left all funds for a 90 day period so that all ECW wrestlers wouldn't be chased and taken to court by creditors looking for money.

He rose from young budding wrestling photographer and had the balls to bullsh*t his way to the top, and all the way down again, then back to the top.

I would recommend this documentary to hardcore and casual wrestling fans alike, it is incredibly interesting,

5.0 out of 5 stars When Heyman Talks, You Listen, 7 Feb. 2015
An exceptional Blu Ray release from WWE showing there is plenty of life left in the physical format yet.

Disc one contains the documentary which runs approximately 2 hours, and is followed by approx 2 hours 15 minutes of promos from Pauls time at AWA and WCW. The documentary is essential viewing and comes across as very honest. There are plenty of people interviewed and I could listen to Heyman talk all day. I feared this documentary would be a repeat of the (brilliant) Rise And Fall Of ECW, but alot of new ground is covered regarding Heyman before and after ECW.
The promos are entertaining, but they are out of context and I can't see myself watching many of these again.

Disc two contains is where the fun begins. Pauls ECW promos and WWE promos. I enjoyed these thoroughly and watched the disc straight through.
There are also three matches included on this disc.

The Blu Ray exclusive features are worth the extra few coins - 75 minutes of additional stories and interviews. I absolutely loved these and some of the most memorable interview segments are in here. Finally, you get one additional promo - Brock and Heyman after breaking Takers streak (the one where the lady in the crowd gets hit in the face by a monitor!)

The only issue that may affect this set is the lack of subtitles.

Overall this set is brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heyman Guy 4 Life, 9 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
With his wrestling career spanning many decades it made sense for the WWE to release a Paul Heyman DVD. Heyman has been involved with many companies but most notably the WWE and ECW. With this documentary the life of Paul Heyman is brought to the public eye with such detail and feeling. Watching this makes you remove yourself from the entertainment side of the business and makes you realize the ups and downs of his life.

With Paul Heyman he wears his heart on his sleeve and the presentation angle the WWE choose was normal (for a documentary) but let Paul speak. There weren’t questions but more answers that has weighed on everyone’s mind for ages. Heyman was upfront and talked about his early days and the path that led him to the wrestling business.

It wasn’t easy for Heyman as a young child taking pictures of the wrestlers before moving into production meetings. Listening to Heyman speak there was a sense of nervousness and tentative toward his life story. When shown on camera, he carried a relaxed look that he could tell his story they he wanted without any direction or force.

The most fantastic part of the DVD was when ECW was discussed. The time line was when he first started with the company all the way until the WWE purchased the company. It was a very emotional part of Paul’s career and you can feel the sentiments. It wasn’t easy for him to discuss what happened to ECW at the very end of the company’s life but he wasn’t holding anything back.

What was not known to me was that the WWE had meetings with ECW and Paul regarding talent and how much interest Vince McMahon had. Vince paid ECW to use wrestlers in the WWE where the monies went straight back into the company. It wasn’t Paul who was cashing checks for himself and keeping the money in his pocket. He withdrew his parents’ savings to keep ECW alive and even fired his own mother for a merchandise mess up. This is how passionate he was for the wrestling business. Paul had a plan that he wanted to run ECW his way and that of course caused waves with others.

Overall Paul has helped many who were still learning the craft of their promos and showed when the WWE brought him in. He was also asked to run Smackdown as the head creative writer and for a short time beat RAW in the television ratings. His creative genius had an excellent track record and continued to evolve the overall characters of up and coming wrestlers.

However the brass of the WWE and Heyman always continued to bump heads and Paul was eventually let go by the company. He moved on to developing his new website and stayed in touch with Brock Lesnar. It was 6 years before Heyman came back into the WWE Universe and again was aiding his "next big thing".

When you think of great wrestling minds not only in front of the camera but behind the scenes, Paul Heyman is in the elite category. Watching this documentary has shown that the WWE didn’t hold anything back and there were no topics untouched. Everyone put their differences aside and brought together an epic tale of a lawyer’s son from the Bronx on what wrestling meant to him.

I put this DVD side by side with the CM Punk documentary because the WWE let the cameras roll and let them speak. It could be the personalities of both or the stories of being introduced to wrestling is both iconic and a road of peaks and valleys. Nothing was always easy for Paul Heyman but he when he decided to take a challenge up to task and put all his effort to make sure things are successful.

That is who Paul Heyman is and will continue to be both inside and out of the ring.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fitting tribute, 4 Feb. 2015

So the evil genius finally gets his own profile and it's a pretty epic story of a lifetime spent in and around wrestling. It's been a long time coming but they've done a cracking job here so it's worth the wait.

For your money you get a 2 hour documentary on the man himself followed by literally hours of promos and various bonus stories from Heyman and others that didn't make the cut for the main feature. There's 3 matches as well which involve Heyman to different degrees. On the Blu Ray version there's an extra 74 minutes of stories and an additional promo (the Conquerer of the Streak promo from the night after WM30).

The doc is the highlight of course and covers all the major ground from Heymans early days as a photographer then to his time in the AWA, NWA, WCW, ECW, WWF(E), OVW and various other pursuits. There's good depth to most of what's covered although there's the odd frustrating moment when I was left wanting a little more. Heymans departure from WWE in 2006 was a pretty significant moment but it's covered very briefly here - almost as if they just expect us to know these kind of details and don't wish to dwell on it.

It's a minor gripe though and mostly it's good stuff with plenty of input from the big man as well as a shed load of relevant contributions from the likes of Lawler, Apter, Gordon, Dreamer, Sapolsky, Ross, Styles, Foley, Lesnar, Punk and many more.

The promos included are extensive - ranging from short, sharp, punchy fun from the AWA and WCW days, to the more intense ECW stuff and the longer modern day WWE material. I feared it may get a little tiresome watching/hearing the same guy talk for this long but he's such a good talker and there's enough variety to prevent that. You may not want to watch ALL of it in one sitting of course but they work just fine when watched in large chunks. The extra stories are well worth the time, fleshing out a few points from the main feature and are mostly interesting and/or amusing. The 3 matches included bring a bit of fun also.

So overall, this is a quality production from WWE. Another in a line of top biography sets they've been putting out in recent times - they're still getting something right.

A near lifelong fan, the guy had balls to chance his arm as a young kid and got his way into a wrestling show to take photos and the rest is history,. well not even close, this dvd release will educate you, enlighten you and entertain you, heyman is a wrestling god. Loved it. worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Ladies and Gentlemen...', 4 Aug. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a preliminary review and will only detail the documentary contained on 'Ladies and Gentlemen, My Name Is Paul Heyman'; as I have yet to delve into the plethora of additional features contained on the Blu Ray Version. The documentary itself is around two hours in duration, and presents an in depth analysis, with plenty of behind the scenes footage and additional commentaries by former employees of the various Wrestling companies that Paul Heyman worked for (or should that be companies that have had the 'pleasure' of working with Paul Heyman). It is undoubtedly pull no punches affair, including scathing inputs by the likes of Jerry 'The King' Lawler; a person who it is no secret, genuinely dislikes Paul Heyman. However it is balanced and does nothing to discredit the achievements and visionary qualities that Heyman brought to the promotions he has been involved with; much unlike WWE's previous works such as 'The Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior', a format which this could have all too easily repeated. The presentation of the information provided within this documentary is wonderfully crafted, devoid of too much association of what feelings should be associated with certain comments garnered through the use of specific music or technical effects; the sentiments expressed of the people involved in this project speak for themselves without the unnecessary grandeur and pomp that can often plague these emotive pieces. I would certainly recommend this piece to anyone with an affiliation or affection to Pro Wrestling; from the forever hardcore fans of ECW, to those who as a child may have wondered why the man in the Stone Cold hat and Davy Crockett fur cap haircut was so p*ssed off with Vince Mcmahon.

Great documentary. One of WWE's best decisions in recent times was bringing back this great wrestling mind. He should take over from Vince, not Triple H.
