It looks as if Amazon's review system might have gone on the blink with some of the other reviews for this Swedish crime flick, which are plainly talking about something else. It looks as if Amazon's review system might have gone on the blink with some of the other reviews for this Swedish crime flick, which are plainly talking about something else. The 'Easy Money' we watched and which is listed on this page is a modern movie, called Snabba Cash in its original Scandinavian. Set in Stockholm, it's a sharp and stylish thriller which explores what happens when greed leads a talented young economic student into the underworld of big-time drug smuggling.

JW, the hero, is from a rural background and has limited resources. He's smart and savvy and so wants to play with the sleek people who come from money and who party big at weekends. But he's barely paying his way through uni by working nights as a taxi driver... until he end up sheltering an escaped convict and becomes embroiled with a high-stakes drug scheme. Enter the heavy mobs; there's a conflict going on between Arabs backed by Albanians and the top-dog Serbians, one of whom is himself trying to retire from a life of beating people to a pulp and leaving them bleeding in the gutter, and who sees JW as a possible escape route.
It all gets cleverly convoluted, extremely tense and - as you might expect - more than a little bit violent. What makes this an above average gangland movie is the strength of the characters, their very credible back-stories and motivation, and the interplay between them. In two hours, Easy Money created an entirely credible scenario with people behaving badly but realistically. It also rips along at a fair pace, unlike some Nordic noir which can take forever to gestate and then leaves you hanging. Easy Money delivers...

If you liked the Pusher Trilogy [DVD], then you should enjoy this. It hits several of the same Euro-trash notes and dispenses just as much blunt force trauma. All the same, Easy Money demands a fair bit of input from the audience: it's much more intelligent than the average Hollywood shoot 'em up and you'll need to follow the characters' storylines carefully to get the most from it.
8/10

Poor boy gets involved with bad guys to get him through college and keep in with the rich set.... I'm sure someone will tell me this is based on a true story... Them again probably not. Misses on lots of fronts, but kinda of interesting to see a Nordic gangster movie type of thing. Varying styles, perhaps to separate the criminal world from the rich set / college world. There just seemed to be far too much going on and story evolves with far too much convenience and then there's the big leap in the storyline - which goes too far - however it's the cornerstone to the story. Sadly from this point the film becomes unintentionally a little comedic. Ok watch overall

2.0 out of 5 stars Lacklustre, 2 Aug. 2014
Putting Scorsese's name on the cover is a smart move - he "presents" but this endorsement does not amount to a indication of quality. The story revolves around a student of finance supplementing his way through college by doubling up as a taxi driver for a bunch of Arabic criminals. Coming from a poor background and mingling with his richer financial friends he needs to dress to impress. He parks his saloon car well outside the country mansion dinner parties to avoid embarrassment.

The plot becomes convoluted and cumbersome as he gets entangled deeper into a drug dealing money laundering scheme and the viewer is introduced to an escaped convict and Serbian gangsters competing for the drug money. At over two hours duration there is ample time for a romantic sub plot and we see one of the Serbians having to deal with being a single parent while developing a conscience . This does not make for interesting viewing. This movie had a script with potential but I found watching it to be tedious. The direction at times was also a bit amateurish - nothing could be done to disguise the low budget. Easy Money is a jump on the bandwagon "Nordic Noir" movie, (a genre where there are other more rewarding entries to watch).

I'm hugely into Nordic TV and this is the first Nordic film I have watched. I was lucky enough to see it at a free cinema screening held by The Times, and absolutely loved it, so I came straight home and bought the DVD on Amazon! Fantastic!

4.0 out of 5 stars A sign of a good foreign film is you forget the subtitles are there ..., 19 Oct. 2014

Well made thriller. A sign of a good foreign film is you forget the subtitles are there and get sucked right in to the story.

Shame so many people dismiss a film because of subtitles.
